Trevor Philip's, Head of the commission for Racial Equality, said recently that Britain was "sleep-walking into segregation" and he stated that intervention was necessary. We believe that our work in Bradford is a step in the right direction and that along with other work in the district we are developing a culture of plural identities and a strong sense of British citizenship in that context. The Home Office acknowledges and supports the School Linking Project.
New developments in 2006-07 include working with Tower Hamlets (London) LEA in order to develop their own Linking project. We are also launching for the first time an Action Research group, in partnership with Bradford University and the Peace Studies department. The purpose of this is to develop a higher understanding of the issues that surrounds our teachers in the art of linking.
We have an exciting year for Secondary schools, previously students have told us that they want to break through artificial boundaries that are separating them, and they want real knowledge and peace in our district. In order to achieve this, we have developed an exiting programme which consists of the Gulbenkian Trail where students find out about the history of their community also Peacejam where students make plans to develop a peaceful community and lots more.
Last Academic year we launched a new form of the Schools Linking Project in Keighley, where primary and secondary schools are working together on a programme of exciting activities between January and July. This is continuing with exciting projects such as Bees in Space where children find out about the life cycle of bees and flowers.
Six years on the Schools Linking Project seems as important as ever to the health of our district and an external evaluation just published shows that the Schools Linking Project is making significant impact to the development of links between cultures and communities.
You can find out more about these new developments in the news section of the website. We the Team of the Schools Linking Project hope you find this website useful and interesting. If there is anything you would like to tell us or ask us about it, we would be very happy to hear from you.
