On September 21st, 1949 , the People’s Republic of China was proclaimed. The country has seen huge changes over the last 56 years, but 58 years is but a mere moment in the 5,000 year history of China . China picked up 32 gold medals at the 2004 Athens Olympics, and in 2008 Beijing will host the Olympic Games.
