New projects in progress:

1.The Citizenship and Community Cohesion Symposium 30th June 2008

The Citizenship and Community Cohesion Project involved primary and secondary schools working collaboratively on action research projects, developing and reviewing resources to support the delivery of Community Cohesion and Citizenship in Bradford Schools and beyond.

Eight schools presented the work that they were involved in at a symposium on the 30th June, held at the Bradford Academy. The emphasis was on sharing good practice and allowing the 'student voice' to be heard.  The messages from all the pupils were summed up by one statement from a pupil at Queensbury School:

' ALL pupils in ALL Bradford schools should be involved in this kind of work'

2. Culture and Community a Film Project (primary and secondary)

This project involves children from primary schools and secondary schools in working collaboratively on a joint cross curricular film project, encouraging children to find out about Bradford's history of achievement, migration, diversity and the long established Traveller, Gypsy, Showmen and Settled Traveller communities in the area.

3. Bradford REWIND Anti-Racism Project (secondary)

The purpose of this project is to expose and explore the myths that have been created around race and racism, through factual evidence, discussion, peer interaction and creative activities and use of the REWIND DVD. The intention is to create transition links between secondary schools and the primary schools that feed them; encouraging young people from the secondary schools to lead on activities planned and implemented in the primary schools focusing on the question ‘Who do we think we are?’

The project aims to teach about race and racism through the subjects of the National Curriculum and Citizenship. The activities planned are designed to help schools to work towards fulfilling the statutory requirement to promote community cohesion.

4. Who do we think we are? Bradford REWIND Anti – Racism Project (primary)

The aim of this project is to encourage children to explore their own roots, background identity and heritage (aided by children from secondary schools); to encourage a zero tolerance to racism to expose and explore the myths that have been created around race and racism, through factual evidence, discussion, peer interaction and creative activities. The project aims to teach about race and racism through the subjects of the National Curriculum and Citizenship. The activities planned are designed to help schools to work towards fulfilling the statutory requirement to promote community cohesion. Based on the REWIND DVD resource

 5. Bradford City of Peace (secondary) An ICT project involving a group of Year 10 students from Rhodesway School in designing a GPS interactive trail for use by other secondary schools. The trail will be useful for cross curricular work, following city centre sites, explaining Bradford's long association with peace and the peace movement. Pupils will help to create two versions of the Peace Trail, the first using the script from the Peace Trail website, and the second version will be recorded as a 'student' version of the trail, to make it a more useable resource for young people.See www.cityforpeace.org.uk
