Family Learning Festival 2008
To celebrate the tenth Anniversary of Family Learning nationally, Family Learning Week will this year be a month long festival of events in October 2008. This will be called Family Learning Festival and there will be events taking place nationally and across Bradford, throughout the month.
For the first time ever, the Education Bradford Family Learning Team has created a district wide partnership with Bradford Libraries, The National Media Museum, Bookstart and Bradford Museums and Galleries to develop an exciting an innovative programme of events that will run throughout the Festival.
The Festival will launch on Saturday 4 October 2008. There will be a family film showing at the Pictureville Cinema (this theatre will hold up to 300 people), followed by art based and story telling activities running in the national Media Museum foyer and in the Central Library. The connecting door will be opened and families can go freely from one activity to another. There will be an artist to support families with their art creations, face painting and much more.
The Festival will continue to be City centre based every Saturday in October (with a family film being available on 3 Saturdays, cost £1 per person) with smaller events occuring during the week throughout the district in various schools, libraries, museums and early years settings.
Schools will be invited to work with our Family Learning Festival artist in residence during the 3rd week in October to create a Family Learning Bench. During the October half term break 10 libraries in the district will be inviting families to spend time with our artist to print their own family themed book bags. Warburtons are joining one of the Saturday events to help families make healthy sandwiches and Bookstart Bear has a hectic schedule during the Festival.
It is going to be a fantastic month, with something for every family in Bradford.
Every primary school aged child will receive a Family Learning Festival Guide during September 2008. Guides will also be available in all Bradford libraries, museums and the Media Museum.
