Family Language, Literacy and Numeracy

Family Language, Literacy and Numeracy (FLLN) courses are designed to help adults with their own literacy and numeracy skills as well as those of their children.  These courses also aim to help adults better understand the new methods that schools now use to teach their children.

Some examples of courses are; Fun with Phonics, Loving Language, Family Fortunes, Mini Maths and It’s All Changed Since I Was At School.

Courses are either adult only or joint, where the children will join in for the last 30 – 45 minutes of a session.

Taster Courses 12 hours

Our taster courses are designed to fit into a half-term and run for approximately 6 weeks.  Short courses put a large emphasis on engaging parents and encouraging them to work with their children and actively participate in their learning.  As well as updating and improving their own language, literacy and numeracy skills, adults will have ample opportunity to explore different games and activities to make learning fun and enjoyable.

Short Courses 30 hours

All our short courses have the option of accreditation with National Open College Network (NOCN) at either Entry level 3, Level 1 or Level 2 in a range of Family Learning Units.  The aim of the longer courses is to focus more on developing and progressing the adults’ skills although a key element is still looking at ways to support children.

Standard Courses 60 hours

These courses have full accreditation and combine either two NOCN modules or progress adults onto their National Tests in literacy or numeracy.
