Anne’s questions then, young people’s questions now!      

'Stand up to Hatred' is a multi-media teaching resource and series of short films, designed by young people for young people. It encourages an exploration of  Human Rights in a Bradford context, based on the themes from the 'Anne Frank [+ you} exhibition -  H8U?, FREE!, Wanna fight?, Who r U? and Who cares?  Click below to watch a clip from the Stand up to Hatred DVD. .

Anne Frank [+  you} a cross phase, interactive, multi media exhibition was hosted by Education Bradford in partnership with the  Anne Frank Trust UK, the British partner organisation of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, in March 2009.  Bradford's own Anne Frank School Ambassadors were the guides for school groups (and others) who visited the exhibition. Every day was booked solid and the exhibition (and the ambassadors) welcomed thousands of visitors.

And it's not all over, in fact it's just the beginning!

In the summer term of 2009 the 'Anne Frank Ambassadors' will be offering their services to primary schools in the district supporting the Community Cohesion Education Standards and work in History, English and Citizenship. Diversity and Cohesion staff will be available to run workshops with young people in secondary schools around 'Stand up to Hatred' (particularly useful for Citizenship, RE, History and English teachers); there is a film making competition for pupils 'This is ME, this is Bradford' and also an Art competition 'This is ME!', great prizes for the winners. All these initaitives are open to all schools in Keighley and Bradford. and all have clear links to Anne Frank [+ you}

2008
In November, students from four secondary schools in the district met for the first time to film and record their ideas about human rights issues in the Bradford context. The young people involved are currently in years seven to ten and have a range of interests and abilities.
 
They then spent a further two days working with Lucy Glennon of the Anne Frank Trust UK, learning more about the life and times of Anne Frank, Nazi policies, the Holocaust and taking part in activities asking them to identify human rights issues that affected Anne then and human rights issues locally, nationally and internationally today.
 
The students also planned, presented and featured in short films, each addressing a different article from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, linked to the themes of Anne Frank [+ you}
 
The themes are:
H8U? - Freedom from discrimination; FREE! - Freedom of thought conscience and religion, Wanna fight? - freedom from torture and degrading treatment; Who r U? Freedom of expression; Who cares?
 
A DVD of the films form part of the 'Stand up to Hatred' teaching resource (planned with the help of teachers from schools in the 'Anne Frank [+ you} steering group')This resource was sent FREE to all schools in Bradford in February 2009.

2009

January 2009 the Anne Frank Ambassadors were joined at Holocaust Memorial Day – Bradford Remembers - by children from Keelham and Home Farm Primary Schools and Tong High School's Ignite Drama Group.

In February the ambassadors were invited to visit the Anne Frank House Amsterdam, as VIPs. A number of the ambassadors were able to make the trip to Amsterdam and had a memorable day working on their ambassador skills and exploring the House; Stand up to Hatred was presented to the Anne Frank House's Education Officers.

All the Anne Frank Ambassadors came together for final guide training on 2nd March. Bradford Grammar school joined the group and became Bradford's newest Anne Frank Ambassadors.

The young people planned and led the Anne Frank [+ you} launch event at Cartwright Hall on the evening of the 3rd of March and what an event it was! They made their voices heard to a capacity audience and were inspirational in their comments, thoughts and performances.

The Anne Frank Ambassadors worked at Cartwright Hall through out March on a daily basis, guiding schools and the general public around the exhibition between 10.00am and 2.30pm. The ambassadors took responsibility on their school's designated days. The response from visiting schools and the public......excellent, inspirational, moving, an outstanding educational experience. A great success! April 2009
